My most serious and intimate relationship has been with art. We have been best friends, worst enemies, and almost lovers for 20 years. I think, breathe, and would eat art if it wasn't poisonous. I live for the scent of melting metal and titanium white. It gives me this adrenaline rush that compares to no other. I make different types of art, depending on what is happening within my life. I've explored grief and loss, to fantasy portraits of Barbie dolls. I also make apparel scarves because I love the process of felting.
I work mostly with canvas or water color paper. I like the flexibility of the paper, how you can tear it apart and then put it back together. Paper provides a sense of being able to mess up, which I feel I can't do when I'm working on canvas. I paint in thin layers that are built up on each other slowly. I use oils because I like the manipulation that you can get while using them. There's a sort of fragility in them and a patience that you have to develop to be able to make them malleable. My themes are varied. I really appreciate utilizing models and nudes, and capturing the essence of the human figure. I also enjoy exploring my personal symbols. Size doesn't really matter because each has a place. I enjoy working large and therefore love the process of mural making. |
